Rev. Foster Thomas Givins, 89, of Spartanburg, SC, died Friday, February 10, 2017, at White Oak Estates-Spartanburg. Born May 30, 1927, in Avondale, NC, he was the son of the late Baxter C. and Daisy Justice Givens and husband, for 59 years, of the late Barbara Stone Givins. With over 50 years of ministry, Rev. Givins served as Assistant Pastor at Oak Grove and Roebuck Baptist Church. He served as Pastor at Buckeye Forest and Riverview, Whitney First Baptist Church and later at Beaver Dam Baptist Church in Gaffney. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, attended Mars Hill College, Dan Greer Bible College, and was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Survivors include his son, Richard K. Givins of Chesnee, SC; daughter, Karen Givins Tewkesbury and her husband Alan of Spartanburg, SC; three grandchildren, Garth Givins, Matt Tewkesbury, and Rick Tewkesbury; and brother, James Givens and his wife Fannie of Gaffney, SC. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Bagwell Givins; and brothers, Briscoe and Charles. A service honoring his memory will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday, February 13, 2017, at Mount Zion Baptist Church, by the Rev. Rob Gouge and the Rev. Monty King. Visitation will follow the services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mount Zion Baptist Church, 842 Mount Zion Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
