Rev. Weldon F. Burnett, Jr., 84, of Spartanburg, died Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at his home. Born September 13, 1927, in Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late Weldon Fletcher Burnett, Sr. and Hallie Shults Burnett. Rev. Burnett was pastor at Northside Baptist Church of Una for 42 years. He retired from the U. S. Postal Service after 34 years of service and was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his beloved wife of 62 years, Helen Tinsley Burnett; daughters, Doris Burnett Smith and husband Jerry of Spartanburg, and Mary Jo Mayo and husband Joseph III of Charlotte, NC; son, Dr. Michael F. Burnett and wife Ann of Baton Rouge, LA; grandchildren, Jeremy Smith and wife Kim, Joshua Smith, Jamie Bayne and husband Billy, Kara Nettles and husband Carl, Lauren and Hope Burnett, and Caden and Coleman Mayo; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Frances Julian of Spartanburg. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 noon Saturday, December 24, 2011, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, by the Rev. Henry Vegter and the Rev. Alan Stewart. Visitation will follow the service.
