Reuben Dean Roberts, Jr. 61, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Spartanburg Medical Center due to complications from a stroke brought on by abdominal surgery. Born January 5, 1960 in Union, SC, he was the son of the late Reuben Dean Roberts and the late Kathryn Elizabeth Layton Roberts Crisp and the grandson of the late Grandpa Rabbit, who adored him.
Dean was a 1979 graduate of Dorman High School and a member of Southside Baptist Church in Spartanburg, SC. As a child growing up in Pauline, South Carolina, Dean enjoyed the company of his cousins, Beth Pruitt Jennings, Nelson Pruitt, Ronnie Pruitt, and David Pruitt.
Dean was an avid golfer until his decline in health. Along with golfing, Dean loved spending time with his best friends, Dave Fransico, Mark Hardin, Mark Connor, and the late Chris Self.
Dean joyously spoke to his friends everyday with love and admiration. You could always hear him early in the morning having his daily phone call with his cousin, Nelson Pruitt, who he considered another brother. Dean loved fiercely and unapologetically and spoke highly of the ones he called friends and family. You could always find him sitting on the front porch waiting on a lemon pie from his neighbor, Mrs. Frankie Humphries who he adored. Dean would always claim to not be an animal person, but you would never guess that by the way he interacted with every animal he met, especially the late Miss Kitty, Rose and Jack.
Dean was an adoring father who was so proud of his daughters accomplishments; Katie, with a Bachelor of Science from North Greenville University and Kennedy with a Bachelor of Arts from Anderson University and a Master of Fine Arts from The University of South Carolina (his favorite football team).
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Kathy Faehnrich-Roberts of the home, his daughters, Katie Victoria Lee Roberts of Greenville, SC and Kennedy Reid Roberts of Spartanburg, SC. Along with his children, he is survived by his brothers, J.R. Crisp (Harriet) and William Crisp (Mandy), his niece, Tasha Faehnrich Kennedy (Michael), his nephews, Leslie Faehnrich, Adam Crisp (Blake), Nelson Crisp and Luke Connor; great niece, Sarah Lee Kennedy, great nephews, Michael Nathaniel Kennedy, Owen Thad Kennedy, and Seth Owen Faehnrich. Also left to cherish his memories are his Mother and Father-in-law, Don and Mattie Faehnrich, his sister in law, Vicky Faehnrich Connor, and his brother in law, Eddie Faehnrich and his Grandma Rabbit.
