Renate Furner

Renate Elisabeth Steinmetz Furner, 66, of Spartanburg, died Tuesday, August 9, 2011, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born June 7, 1945, in Tegernsee, Bavaria, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Alfred W. and Elise A. Steck Steinmetz. Mrs. Furner was a travel agent in the Chicago area as well as Spartanburg. She was also a former beautician. She arrived in the United States in October 1962 and was a very active member of the Newcomers Club. She also graduated from the College of DuPage in Illinois. Survivors include her loving husband Richard C. Furner of Spartanburg, SC; daughter, Heather K. Sanders and husband Matt of Simpsonville, SC; son, Chris A. Furner and wife Sunshine of Boiling Springs, SC; two grandchildren, Alexandra and Jack Sanders; and a sister, Gabriele Schmid of Germany. A Memorial Gathering will be held at 4:00 PM Saturday, August 20, 2011, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel.
