Rebecca "Mama Beck" Adams Bogan, 80, a resident of White Oak Manor, Spartanburg, died Monday, April 4, 2011, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born May 21, 1930, in Santuc, Union County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Robert Spurgeon Adams, Sr. and E. Janie Foster Adams, and wife of the late Charles Thurston Bogan. Mrs. Bogan was a 1950 graduate of Spartanburg General Hospital School of Nursing. "Mama Beck" was a registered nurse, employed for 48 years in nursing, at Spartanburg General Hospital, BJ Workman Hospital of Woodruff, and retired from Mary Black Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church of Union, and also a former member of the American Nursing Association, Spartanburg General Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association, and Piedmont District Nurses Association. Survivors include her brother, M. Harold "Cotton" Adams of Missouri City, TX; and many nieces and nephews, including Kevin and Kim Crocker who were loved as her own grandchildren and great-grandchild, Troy Crocker. She was predeceased by two sisters, Gladys "Sis" Adams Scott and Dorothy Adams Crocker; two brothers, Robert S. "Bob" Adams, and Arthur M. "Buck" Adams; and a nephew, Butch Crocker, father of Kevin and Kim Crocker. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Lawson and the Rev. Jerry Ford. Visitation will follow the service in the chapel. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Salem Baptist Church, 330 Santuc Dr., Union, SC 29379.
