Raymond Leroy "Roy" Hammett, 70, died Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills. Born March 23, 1943, in Union County, SC, he was a son of the late Oscar Leroy and Estell Parker Hammett and husband of the late Marian Lee "Susie" Guffy Hammett. He was a mechanical contractor, founder of the Roy Hammett Co., and attended Anderson Mill Road Baptist Church. Mr. Hammett was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp., serving as a member of the Raider Battalion in Vietnam. Survivors include a son, Mike Hammett (wife Susan) of Moore, SC; three granddaughters, Hannah, Gracie, and Sophie Hammett; a grandson, Owen Hammett; two brothers, Harold Hammett of Pacolet and George Hammett of Kings Mountain, NC; and a sister, Lorena Moore of Kings Mountain. He was predeceased by a son, Andy Hammett, and seven brothers and sisters. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Floyd's Pacolet Chapel. Graveside services with military rites will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Springhill Memorial Gardens, Chesnee, SC, conducted by the Rev. Dr. D. J. Horton.
