Charles Ray "Buck" Murray, 74, of 860 Whitlock Street, died Monday, October 4, 2010 at his home. Born November 12, 1935 in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Uless R. and Blanche Gosnell Murray. A graduate of Fairforest High School, he was a retired insurance agent with Life of Georgia and was a member of Arcadia First Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon and Sunday School teacher. Mr. Murray was a U. S. Marine Corps veteran and an avid gardener and fisherman. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Viola Hayes Murray; two sons, James Ray (Lu) Murray and Bobby (Tonya) Murray of Spartanburg; a daughter, Tonya (David) Smith of Spartanburg; five grandchildren, Travis Murray, Jason Murray, Lindsay Metcalf, Stephen Murray, and Gracie Smith; and four great-grandchildren, Chandler Murray, Reagan Rhine, Rylie Murray, and Jamey Metcalf, an uncle; Bynum Murray and two special friends; Charley Butler and Otis Gregory. He was predeceased by a great-granddaughter, Cadence Murray, and a brother, Roy Lee Murray. Graveside services with military rites will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, October 7, 2010, at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Rex Keaton. Visitation will be at the graveside.
