Johnny Ray Jarrett, Sr. "Ray", 81, passed from this life on Sunday, February 8, 2015 in Spartanburg, SC, after a long illness. Born April 23, 1933 in Roebuck, SC to Ralph Jarrett and Mildred Foster Cannon, he was raised by his beloved grandparents, Minnie and John Foster with his siblings George of Roebuck, SC, and the late John Henry and Claude Foster. A U. S. Army veteran, Ray was an excellent golfer with a great love of the sport. He was a long time member of First Baptist Church, Spartanburg, SC and retired from Calloway Chemical Company. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Carolyn Gwinn Jarrett; his children, Lynne Jarrett Oblachinski (Kirby) of Irmo, SC, Johnny Ray Jarrett, Jr. (Christy), and Teena Jarrett, all of Spartanburg, SC; and nephew, Dennis Gowan (Susan) of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Joshua Oblachinski, Jennifer Bessent Bagnal (Matt), Jessica Bessent Major (Kevin) of Irmo, SC, Julianna Bessent King (Alex) of Kingsport, TN, Catlyn Jarrett of Boiling Springs, SC, and Seth Oblachinski who preceded him in death in 2011; great-grandchildren, Jordyn Caitlyn Disher, Grayson McGregor Major, Ashlynne Taylor Bagnal, Addison Grace Bagnal, and Peyton Rae King. He was beloved Poppy to all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday, February 10, 2015, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 11, 2015, at First Baptist Church, 250 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29306. Private burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
