Ralph Richard “Rick” Hayes, 72, of Spartanburg, SC died peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 7, 2021. He was born January 30, 1949 in Spartanburg County, SC, and is the son of the late Ralph Raymond Hayes and Betty Hayes Barron.
Ralph was a man of many interests throughout his life. He was an experienced handy man who could repair anything put in front of him. He built the home in which he raised his family. He enjoyed time at the beach and had an affinity for lighthouses. Ralph was equally at home in the mountains, where he married his wife, Vickie.
Ralph was an excellent and creative cook who enjoyed putting together large dinners for his children and their families at holidays. He was particularly, and rightfully, proud of his cornbread dressing. After more than 20 years of service, Ralph retired from Auto Zone. He was a member of Arkwright Baptist Church and Roebuck Masonic Lodge #357 AFM.
Ralph was a quiet man who spoke kindly to the people around him. The world is a better place for having him in it. A true man of his time, Ralph had rough hands and a soft heart.
Surviving are his wife, Vickie Dawn Dillard Hayes, his sons, Tony Richard Hayes (Kimberly) of Pacolet, SC and Mark Tucker-Hayes (David) of Raleigh, NC, his daughters, Julie Hayes Knox (Billy) of Union, SC, Lisa Michelle Hayes of Harbor Island, SC, Rhonda Hare (John) of Raleigh, NC, and Taylor Bailey (William) of Gaffney, SC; nine grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. Along with his parents he was predeceased by a great grandson, Jacob Matthew Gaddy.
Private services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Jacob’s Pantry, Anchor Life Church, P.O. Box 160615, Boiling Springs, SC 29316.
