Polly Blackwell

Polly Hazelwood Blackwell, 86, of Spartanburg, SC, died Thursday, March 3, 2022 at her daughter’s residence. Born November 1, 1935 in Laurens, SC, she was the daughter of the late Louie William Hazelwood and Margaret Hazelwood Lister and the wife of the late Robert Lee Blackwell.

Polly was a member of Covenant Baptist Church for over 15 years. With her beautiful voice, she sang in the church choir for many years.

A very nurturing and loving mother and grandmother, she always made certain that no one ever left her home hungry. She loved her children, but she so loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and everyone could tell how much she loved them all.

Polly was always ready to travel. Vacations with family were something she looked forward to. She loved to entertain family and friends at her vacation home in Garden City, along with missionary trips, which included Nicaragua, Haiti, The Dominican Republic, Panama and Costa Rica.

Survivors include her daughter, Karen Smith (Jan) of Spartanburg, SC; her son, Lee Blackwell (Denise); grandchildren, Brad Coggins (Summer), Lori Osment (Brad), Jonathan Coggins, Maryanna Petty (Jeff), and Blair Smith (Jamie), Hope Leslie (Jacob), and Bryce Blackwell; great grandchildren, Gracie Coggins, Karlee Blauert, Sully Dixon, Casen Smith, MaryElla Smith, Savannah Osment, Faith Leslie, and Cali Sanchez; and her brothers, Donnie Lister and Charles Lister. She was also predeceased by a brother, Tommy Hazelwood.

Visitation will be 1:30 – 2:15 PM Sunday, March 6, 2022 at Covenant Baptist Church, 200 Evangel Road, Spartanburg, SC 29301. A Funeral service will be at 2:30 PM at the church, conducted by The Rev. Gary Hensley. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Complex, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
