Phyllis Dianne Guy

Phyllis Dianne Guy, 77 of Spartanburg, South Carolina passed away at her home Sunday August 25, 2024. Phyllis was born December 15, 1946, to Earl & Myrtle Guy.

Phyllis dedicated over fifty years of her life to the noble profession of teaching, spanning her impactful career across Spartanburg School Districts 2 & 6. Her passion for education was evident in her unwavering dedication to her students, whose lives she touched immeasurably. Having earned her Master's Degree in Education from the University of South Carolina, Phyllis exemplified a commitment to lifelong learning. She truly believed in the power of knowledge, and her love for teaching was complemented by her innate ability to inspire the children in her care. Her personality radiated warmth and kindness, embodying the essence of a caretaker and mentor who tirelessly devoted herself to nurturing young minds.

Beyond her noteworthy career, Phyllis reveled in the joy of traveling, having explored all fifty states, each journey adding to her wealth of experiences. Her other pursuits included tutoring, watching birds, and fondly participating in the life of her church community, as she took great pride in her membership at First Baptist North Spartanburg. Furthermore, her involvement with The International Reading Association reflected her passion for literacy and education.

Phyllis is survived by her devoted mother; Myrtle Henson Guy, a host of cousins; Linda Gurley, Angela Lee, Terry Hughes (Freda), Brandon Hughes, Jennifer Bush (Chris), Pat Groothede, Andrew Riley, Elizabeth Riley, Rev. John Riley; and her friend; Sherry Jackson. Phyllis was predeceased by her father; Earl Guy, and a cousin; Deborah Riley.

The celebration of Phyllis's remarkable life will be held at First Baptist North Spartanburg 8740 Asheville Hwy Spartanburg, SC 29316 on Friday, August 30, 2024. Friends and family are invited to gather for visitation beginning at 11:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:30 AM. She will be laid to rest thereafter in the Church Cemetery.
