Peggy Shelley

Peggy Spencer Shelley, 80, of Spartanburg and Garden City Beach, died Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at the Medical University of South Carolina. Born October 13, 1928, in Rock Hill, SC, she was the daughter of the late James Perry "J. P." and Marion Griffin Spencer. She was a 1949 graduate of the University of South Carolina, a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg, and attended Garden City Chapel and Retreat in Garden City Beach. Peggy was an avid reader, loved golf and tennis, being with her family, and loved to laugh. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Bill Shelley; and her two sons, Dr. Ed Shelley and his wife Betty of Myrtle Beach, and Dr. Jay Shelley of Spartanburg. "Bum-Bum" is also survived by her six grandchildren, Katherine Spencer Shelley of Nashville, TN, and Sans Sebastian, Spain, Sarah Bland Shelley of Columbia, Peggy Louise Shelley Boland and her husband Ben of Spartanburg, Elaine West Shelley of Charlotte, NC, Spencer Marie Shelley of Spartanburg, and Jay Spencer Shelley, Jr. of Spartanburg.
