Peggy Lawter

Peggy Sue Lawter went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Thursday January 14, 2021 after a lengthy battle with metastatic breast cancer. She passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Roland and Polly Lewis. She was predeceased by her husband of over forty-four years, Joe Ellis Lawter, and her only daughter Shanna Lawter Miller and her son-in-law William Miller III. She is survived by two siblings, Richard Lewis (Becky) and Judy Sellars (Ken); grandson, William Joseph Miller (Victoria); a great-grandson, William Levi Miller; a nephew, Jeff Sellars; a niece, Dr. Jill Morris (Chris); and a dear uncle, James Lewis (Juanita) and cousin, Jerry Harrison (Pearl); and a beloved nephew and caregiver, Tyler Lewis. Ms. Lawter was of the Baptist faith and a longtime member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where she was part of the Joy Ladies Sunday School Class. For many years she was part of the church choir and taught Sunday School. Her church and sisters in Christ remember fondly how she had such an immense knowledge of the Bible. Ms. Lawter will be remembered for her strong and unwavering faith and trust in the Lord. She loved her home and deeply enjoyed interior decorating, gardening, and writing. She loved gospel music and reading her Bible. She exemplified the true definition of a Proverbs thirty-one woman. She was a strong warrior and fighter. Her courage and pillar of faith will continue to be an inspiration to her family. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday January 18th, 2021 at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery, 797 Old Georgia Rd, Moore SC 29369, conducted by the Rev. James L. Oliver and the Rev. Joe Burnett. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church Building Fund, 797 Old Georgia Road, Moore, SC 29369.
