Paul Edwin Poteat, 87, of Spartanburg, SC, died Sunday, November 12, 2017, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital. Born November 8, 1930, in Spartanburg County, SC, he was the son of the late Joe Jason and Mary Messer Poteat. A U. S. Army veteran, Mr. Poteat retired from Fluor-Daniel Construction Company. He was a member of Clifton Sunrise Masonic Lodge #215, a Scottish Rite Shriner, and of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife, Brenda Riddle Poteat; son, Paul E. Poteat, Jr. of Spartanburg, SC; step-children, Patty Hutchins Edwards (Irby) of Washington, GA, David Eskew of North Carolina, and Gail Dunnagin of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Jonathan Poteat and Kyle Hutchins; great-grandchildren, Luke and Brie Hutchins; brother, Robert "Buddy" Wilson of Spartanburg, SC; and faithful canine companion, "Worm". In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Olin Gene Poteat; and step-brother, Charles Davis. The family will receive friends at the graveside beginning at 1:30 PM Thursday, November 16, 2017, in Sunset Memorial Park, 1955 Cannons Campground Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. A graveside service, with Masonic Rites by Clifton Sunrise Masonic Lodge and military rites, will follow at 2:00 PM, conducted by the Rev. Tim Waldrop. The family is at the home.
