Paul Petty, Sr.

Paul Dean Petty, Sr., 86, of Spartanburg, SC, died Thursday, March 17, 2016, at Brookdale Skylyn-Spartanburg. Born September 25, 1929, in Pacolet Mills, SC, he was the son of the late Claude and Helen Holland Petty. A veteran of the Army National Guard and graduate of Pacolet High School, Mr. Petty was retired from Sherwin-Williams Paints and was co-owner of the Hillcrest Decorating Center. Later, he also retired from the National Bank of South Carolina. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Paul Morris Sunday School Class, a lifetime member of St. John's Masonic Lodge, and former member of the Evening Sertoma Club and Spartanburg Jaycees. Surviving are his wife, Phyllis Teaster Petty of the home; son, Paul Dean Petty Jr. (Sheila) of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Joel Holland Petty (Sarah) and Lindsey Petty Smith (Paul), all of Spartanburg, SC; great-grandchildren, Betty Jane Smith, Peter Ernest Smith, and Davis Holland Petty. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by siblings, Fred Petty, Ray Petty, Mary Trammel, and Carrie Jean Kirby. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 PM Saturday, March 19, 2016, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 20, 2016, at Trinity United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Neal Woods and the Rev. A. Mickey Fisher. Private entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Complex. Funeral services will be interpreted for the hearing impaired.
