Patricia Ann Miller Pettit, 78, passed away Wednesday, September 1, 2010 surrounded by family at her home. Born February 10, 1932 in Spartanburg, she was the daughter of the late Claude Miller and Lula Haynes Miller Brown and the step-daughter of the late Gerald Brown. A homemaker and avid golfer, she won many golf championships including eight Carolina Country Club Championships, one Three Pines Country Club Championship, three Spartanburg Country Club Championships, one Western Championship, and won the Spartanburg County Championship at age 61. She enjoyed reading and had a natural talent for making plants grow and turning them into a beautiful landscape. She was a member of Walnut Grove United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, Mack H. Pettit; a daughter, Sandy West and husband Bill; three sons, David and his wife Kathy, Eric and his wife Emily and son Rusty; granddaughters, Brook Quinn, Amanda Bettencourt, Merideth Gaffney, Carrie Pettit, and Ginger Earnhardt; grandsons, Russ Moore, Nicholas Pettit, and Matthew Veizades Pettit; and eleven great-grandchildren, Kaiden and Drake Quinn, Andrew Bettencourt, Brittiany, Kelly and Chris Panther, Isabelle Marie and Madeline Grace Moore, William Maddox, Colton and Olivia Earnhardt. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Heather Panther; two brothers, J. W. and Ray Miller; and a sister, Joyce Brooks. Visitation will be 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM Thursday, September 2, 2010 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 3, 2010 at Walnut Grove United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Chris Snelgrove. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Thomas Russell Moore, Nicholas Harlan Pettit, Shannon Alexander West, Thomas Andrew Earnhardt, James Kyle Quinn, and Patrick Daniel Bettencourt. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Walnut Grove United Methodist Church Gazebo Garden Fund, 1335 Walnut Grove Road, Roebuck, SC 29376. The family wishes to express their thanks to her special caregivers, Dorothy Tolbert, Edith Worthy, and Dorothy Smith. The family is at the home, 6 Torrey Pines Court, Spartanburg, SC 29306.
