Patricia Wood Hasty

Patricia Wood Hasty, age 75, of Spartanburg passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 9, 2023. Pat was born on March 15, 1948, the older daughter of John L. and Annie Mae Hyleman Wood. She was married to James Thomas "Jim" Hasty, Jr. for forty-eight years.

Along with her husband, Pat is survived by her daughter Jennifer Hasty and her husband, Robert Stelz of Spartanburg; grandson, John Stelz of Spartanburg; and a sister Penny Cardell and her husband Ken of Landrum, SC.

Patricia received her Bachelor of Arts in elementary education from Lander College and her Masters of Education degree from the University of South Carolina. Most recently, she studied in the Wofford College Lifelong Learning program. Pat took great joy in her career in education, which spanned thirty-six years of teaching, from preschoolers to college students.  She spent the majority of her time with middle school students in Spartanburg District Three.

She had a generous heart for serving others, and she dedicated much of her time volunteering as a Guardian Ad Litem and a mentor for the Citizens Scholars program of the Spartanburg County Foundation.  She was a faithful member of Central United Methodist Church, where she served many leadership positions on various committees and boards and was a long-time member of the handbell choir. Pat served as a board member for the Central Preschool for the Arts.  She was also a past board member of Sacred Traditions And Rituals (STAR).

Pat cherished her family and friends above all else in her life, and she was happiest and proudest for the last five years in her role as “Nana.”

The family will receive friends from 10-11:30 a.m. on Friday, December 15, in the Fellowship Hall of Central United Methodist Church located on 233 N. Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306.  A memorial service conducted by Reverend Cameron Treece will follow at 12 pm in the sanctuary.
