Pat Tellejohn Youmans (77) died on January 9, 2021. She was born in Kansas City, Missouri and raised in Little River, Lyons, and Derby, Kansas. She was the daughter of Roy and Anabel Tellejohn, both deceased. She is survived by her son Tom Brooklyn Youmans and his wife, Ploua Lo Youmans, and grandchildren Anthony Blake Youmans and Katherine Brooke Youmans all of Boiling Springs, SC. Two sisters and brothers-in-law, Vincette and Larry Hubbard of Memphis, Tennessee and Pamela and Larry Hayes of Lexington, SC, two nieces, two nephews, 6 great-nephews, and 2 great-nieces. She was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Roy Youmans. Pat graduated from Derby Senior High School in Derby, Kansas, earned her Bachelor and Master's degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Her first professional employment was in the School for Children with Language-Learning Disabilities at the University of Southern Mississippi. Then she worked in a field center at Garden City, Kansas and later opened a speech and hearing clinic in Hoxie Kansas. Both were part of the Institute of Logopedics in Wichita, Kansas. In 1974, she moved to Spartanburg, SC and worked as a speech-language pathologist in the public-school system. Her last 17 years were in her beloved school, Park Hills Elementary. Pat was a member of the American Speech-Hearing-Language Association and the South Carolina Speech-Hearing-Language Association. She earned the Certificate of Speech-Hearing-Language Association. Pat volunteered with American Youth Soccer Association for several years. After the death of her son she encouraged tissue organ donation through health fairs, radio, TV, schools, and churches. She coordinated a Spell-Bound program between Mr. Gatti's Restaurant and selected schools. Pat enjoyed taking the children from the Children Shelter of the Upstate and Anchor House out to eat several times a year. She was treasurer of Sweetbriar Homeowners' Association and later treasurer, Secretary, and chairman of the Independent Residents' Council at Pacifica Skylyn Retirement Center. Pat was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. Before her illness she taught the 2 year old Sunday School class, was a member of Outreach Sunday School class, a member of the choir, member of Church and Society, elected as assistant lay leader, and under three ministers at Bethel United Methodist Church coordinated several Donor Awareness Sundays encouraging others to make the decision on their individual belief on tissue and organ donation after death. Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Serving as pallbearers will be Tom Youmans, Anthony Youmans, John Williams, Houa Lo, Ge (Jay) Lo, Taro Vang and William Lo.
