Pat Stephens

Patsy "Pat" Ann Howell Stephens, 82, of Roebuck, SC, passed away in her sleep on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at RoseCrest Retirement Community. She was born February 23, 1934 to the late Evans and Jeylell Gilstrap Howell in Spartanburg County, SC. Pat was the widow of the late Franklin Delano Stephens. Pat completed her secondary education at Byrnes High School and went on to graduate from Spartanburg Business College, University of South Carolina-Spartanburg and Converse College, ultimately earning a Master's Degree in education. She taught 5th grade at EP Todd Elementary School for years before retiring from District Seven Schools. She was very active for many years at Second Presbyterian Church, where she was a youth leader, sang in the church choir, taught many Sunday School classes, visited home bound church members, served as Circle chairperson, and led numerous Bible studies. In addition, she was honored with the Presbyterian Women Lifetime Achievement Award. She also served as a volunteer at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center where she was honored with the Volunteer of the Year Award. She is survived by two sons, Jeffery Franklin Stephens (Cindy Bates) of Boiling Springs, SC, and Stewart Timothy Stephens (Angel) of Raleigh, NC; and her granddaughter, Alexandria Ruth Stephens. In addition to her parent's and husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Myron (Bud) Howell. Visitation will be 9:30-10:45 AM Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM at the Chapel, conducted by the Reverend David Howell of Second Presbyterian Church.
