"Papa" Arthur

Horace Benjamin Arthur, 95, of Spartanburg, died Friday, July 5, 2013, at his home. Born December 22, 1917, in Cherokee County, he was a son of the late Horace Clifton and Nell Gaffney Arthur and husband of the late Elizabeth "Lib" Moss Arthur. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was a member of the Spartanburg Civitan Club and was the oldest member of The Country Club of Spartanburg. Mr. Arthur was also the oldest member of Ben Avon Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school director, and church clerk. He retired as Vice President of Community Cash Stores in 1990 after 54 years of service. Survivors include daughters, Libby A. Knudson of Spartanburg and Kippy Arthur Romero (Joe) of Aurora, CO; granddaughter, Cassie Ware of Annapolis, MD. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Heidi Elizabeth Knudson; four brothers; and four sisters. Visitation will be 2:00-3:15 PM Sunday, July 7, 2013, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 3:30 PM at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Tommy Sparks and the Rev. Richard King. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
