Otis Smith, Sr., 80, entered into his eternal rest on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at his residence in Pacolet, SC. A native of Union County, SC, he was the son of the late Mr. Richard A. Stewart and Mrs. Lucille Smith Kelly. He was reared in the home of his grandparents, the late Mr. James "Jim" Smith and Mrs. Mildred Farr-Smith and married to the late Mrs. Mattie Lee Hughes Smith. Mr. Smith was a member of New Salem Zion Baptist Church of Pacolet, SC, where he was a member of the All Male Choir and an appointed Deacon. He retired from Milliken-Pacolet Mills after working there for more that forty years. He continued to work with the community as a member of the Missionary Society and he delivered for Mobile Meals Service. Mr. Smith will be remembered as a remarkable father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and commemorated for all of the generosity, values, and skills that he has instilled within others over his lifetime. Mr. Smith leaves to cherish fond memories, his step-mother, Mattie L. Stewart of Portland, ME; three daughters, Mrs. Brenda Reid (Johnny) of Spartanburg, SC, Mrs. Shirley Gentry (Leonard) of Jacksonville, FL, Loretta Shippy of Pacolet, SC; three sons, Mr. Otis Smith Jr. (Andrea) of Jackson, GA, Mr. Johnny Smith (Valerie) of Lithonia, GA and Reginald Smith of Spartanburg, SC; adopted daughter, Mrs. Karen Robinson of Spartanburg, SC; and reared in the home Mr. Charles Kelly of Charlotte, NC; thirteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; aunt, Willie Lee Miller; uncle, Modest Smith; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mr. Smith had five brothers, Gene Kelly of Spartanburg, SC, Walter Kelly (Lena) of Jonesville, SC, Woodrow Kelly Jr. (Margaret) of Spartanburg, SC, Robert Stewart and Richard A. Stewart Jr. both of Portland, ME; eight sisters, Mattie Midgette (William) of Spartanburg, SC, Justine Harris (Howard) of Pacolet, SC, Mary Ruth Chappell (Skip) and Mildred Kelly both of Boiling Springs, SC, Aileen Price of Portland, ME, Mattie Tillett of Concord, NC, Gloria Jolivet of Chandler, AZ and Janice Brown of Phoenix, AZ. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Willie M. Stewart of Portland, ME and Barbara Jeter of Pacolet, SC. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Friday, May 8, 2015, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 9, 2015, at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, 445 S. Church St., Spartanburg, SC 29304. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. The family is at the residence.
