Ophelia Mathis

Ophelia Fowler Mathis, 75, formerly of Old Greenville Road, passed away Monday, September 6, 2010 at Upstate Carolina Medical Center. Born November 26, 1934 in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late B. O. and Mary Ellen Cash Fowler and the wife of the late Furman Mathis. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. Survivors include two sons, Donald and Nelson Thrift; and a sister, Elsie L. Beach of Spartanburg. She was predeceased by two daughters, Doris Ann Thrift and Judy Bradley; six brothers and three sisters. Visitation will be 7:00-8:30 p.m. Thursday, September 9, 2010 at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 10, 2010 at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel, conducted by the Rev. David Slatton. Burial will be in New Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in Gaffney, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ophelia Mathis Memorial Fund, P.O. Drawer 1530, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
