Ocenia Taylor Evans, 94, a resident of Skylyn Place, independent living, died Tuesday, February 2, 2010, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after a short illness. Born February 26, 1915, in Rutherford County, NC, she was the daughter of the late George Stewart Taylor, Sr. and Clara Owens Taylor and the wife of the late Casey Evans. She was a "Rosie the Riveter" at Goodyear in Akron, OH, during World War II where she met her husband. For many years she was a private duty sitter at various hospitals and homes. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church for more than fifty years. Survivors include a daughter, Martha Evans and her husband Peyton Moore of Charleston; three brothers, Clayton Taylor and his wife Margaret of Inman, Roy Taylor and his wife Emogene of Polk County, NC, and George Stewart Taylor, Jr. and his wife Ernestine of Boiling Springs; three grandchildren, Tammy Wingo and her husband Jeff of Pauline, Darby Keene and his wife Regina, and Mark Keene, all of Charleston; and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, David L. Evans; three brothers, Theodore Roosevelt Taylor, Roscoe Taylor, and Claude Taylor; and three sisters, Lillie Ree Taylor Wilson, Ethel Taylor Carusi, and Clara June Taylor. Visitation will be 1:45-2:45 p.m. Friday, February 5, 2010, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel conducted by the Rev. Glenn Rusher. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethany Baptist Church, P. O. Box 4086, Spartanburg, SC 29305. The family is at the home of her brother, Stewart Taylor, 206 Clearview Heights, Boiling Springs, SC 29316.
