Robert "Bob" Dix Jones, MSgt. U. S. Army (Retired), 91, formerly of Rainbow Lake Rd, Inman, SC, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at RoseCrest-Inman. Born, December 22, 1921, in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late James Jefferson Jones, Jr. and Reba Wilhelmina Kelly Jones Locke, and husband of the late Avenelle M. Noland Jones. A U. S. Army veteran, Mr. Jones was a proud and honored former member of Troop E, 3D US CAV REGMT, Fort Myer, VA, on September 20, 1940, BRAVE RIFLES. He retired as Master Sergeant after 22 years of service. Upon his retirement, he joined the Civil Service and went back to work for the Defense Intelligence Agency. He, along with other members of his office, was honored to receive a letter of appreciation (through channels) from then Vice President Humphrey for providing intelligence support during an overseas trip to Europe. Bob was a life-member of VFW Post #9539. He was also a member of United Baptist Church and attended the Charlie Suddeth Sunday School Class. Surviving are two sons, James A. Jones, SMSgt, USAF, Ret. of Dover, DE, and Kenneth Craig Jones of Haymarket, VA; five grandchildren, Craig, Meghan, Bridget, and Kevin Jones, and Chelsea Luton; and great-grandchildren, Abigail Martin, Charlotte Martin, Jack Imnediato, and Wyatt Jones. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a son, Robert D. Jones. Visitation will be 10:00-10:45 AM Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel, 235 N. Church St., Spartanburg, SC 29306. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Robert Emory and the Rev. Jack Weaver. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA, alongside his beloved wife, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
