Norma Grace Neighbors Kirby, 84, of Spartanburg, SC, wife of John Henry Kirby, III, passed away on Friday, May 6, 2022, at Upstate Community Hospice House – Agape Care, formerly Smith Phayer Hospice House. Born April 20, 1938, in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late Grover Broadus and Grace Shook Neighbors.
A devoted Christian, Norma was a lifelong member of Beaumont Baptist Church. She retired as a laboratory technician from Spartanburg Regional Hospital where she was known to enjoy playing practical jokes. Norma also loved watching her kids play sports, crocheting, and painting Santas.
Beside her husband, survivors include a daughter, Lynn Thomas of Spartanburg; grandsons, Brandon Owens (Brooke) of Boiling Springs and Christopher Owens of Spartanburg; great-grandchildren, John Owens, Loren Potter, Claire Owens, Camden Owens, and Brooklyn Owens. Along with her parents, Norma was predeceased by a sister, Miriam “Jo” Welchel.
Graveside service will be at 3:00 pm Tuesday, May 10, 2022 in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by The Rev. John T. Lee and The Rev. John Cox.
The family will be at the home of Brandon Owens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beaumont Baptist Church, 945 Beaumont Ave, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
