Norma Cubitt

Norma Jean Franklin Simpson Cubitt, 83, of Spartanburg, SC, died Monday, April 14, 2014, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born September 9, 1930, in Columbia, SC, she was the daughter of the late John Raymond and Vernease Goude Franklin Abbott. A Spartanburg High School graduate, Mrs. Cubitt was formerly employed with Butte Knit for 15 years then became the owner of "Leon's Lunch" next to Spartanburg Methodist College. Being in a military family, Norma enjoyed traveling and making many new friendships. She was a great cook! Her talents excelled with ethnic dishes prepared for family and friends. She had a great love for all kinds of music and she attended Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. Surviving are her children, Elaine Simmons (James), Donna Corbin (Cary), Denise Cranford, Alan Simpson, and Garrett Simpson, all of Spartanburg; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; brother, James Franklin of Spartanburg; and sister, Gertrude Haynes of Columbia, SC. She was predeceased by her first husband, Leon Simpson; her second husband, Victor Cubitt; and a son, Leon Samuel Simpson, Jr. A graveside service will be conducted at 3:00 PM Thursday, April 17, 2014, in Fort Prince Memorial Gardens, 125 Ft. Prince Rd., Wellford, SC 29385, by Mr. James Franklin. Visitation will follow at the graveside.
