Nicholas "Nick" Harry Kekas, 73, of Spartanburg, SC, died Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born April 27, 1941, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Harry Dennis and Bessie Trakas Kekas. A graduate of Spartanburg High School and Clemson University, Mr. Kekas also attended Wofford College where he was a member of PKA Fraternity. He was the former president of Corinthian Mills Inc. and continued his career as a textile broker. He was a lifelong member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. He served as a member and officer of The Parish Council, a Junior GOYA advisor, a choir member, served on the Building Committee of the church Family Life Center and oversaw the construction project. He was the first chairman of the Spartanburg Greek Festival which he continued to serve in various capacities over the years. Also, he was the recipient of the Archangel Michael Honors from the Metropolis of Atlanta for service to his church. He was an active member and treasurer for the Spartanburg County Democratic Party and served in the South Carolina National Guard. Survivors include his beloved wife of 43 years, Marika Nixon Kekas; brother, Dennis H. Kekas (Joyce) of Raleigh, NC; sister, Patty K. Miller (Glenn) of Spartanburg, SC; nieces and nephews, Jason Kekas, Nicole K. Ross, Nicholas D. Miller, Stephan H. Miller, Evan Nixon, and Alex Nixon; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Theofanis X. Nixon (Lauren), Nicholas X. Nixon, and Virginia N. Williams (Alan), all of Charlotte, NC; and many other loving family members. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Friday, January 9, 2015, with the Trisagion Prayer Service beginning at 7:30 PM, at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 697 Asheville Hwy, Spartanburg, SC 29303. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 10, 2015, at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, by his cousin, The Rt. Rev. Dimitrios Couchell, Bishop of Xanthos, and The Rev. George F. Nayla. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
