Neva Walker Markham Anderson, 91, of Spartanburg, SC, died of cardiac issues on Monday, November 13, 2017. She was born August 17, 1926, in Goldsboro, North Carolina, to the late James Henry and Bertie Toombs Markham. She and her sister, Hilda Lewis Markham, who predeceased her, remained extremely close their entire lives and were best friends. Neva grew up in Mocksville, North Carolina and later attended Mitchell College. She met the love of her life, Henry Shaw Anderson, when she was thirteen, and they married during his medical school years. She later assisted him in his family medicine practice in Mocksville, North Carolina, coordinating radio calls for patients. Her three children were born during this time period and after her husband completed his specialization in radiology at the Medical College of Georgia, they moved to Spartanburg. Her years there were spent rearing her children, playing golf and bridge, and serving family and friends fabulous meals at field trial events, football tailgates, and at parties at their lake house. She was also an excellent artist and seamstress, making most of her daughters' clothes. She was known for her great sense of humor, quick wit, and ability to roll with the punches. Her favorite vacation was attending the Masters Golf Tournament, only missing it twice since 1958. For over twenty years she enjoyed attending the same fitness classes with her friends. Most of Neva's Spartanburg years were spent with Mrs. Evelyn Clowney by her side as friend and helper. She is predeceased by her husband, Dr. Henry Shaw Anderson. Surviving are her daughters, Pat Anderson Goforth and husband Larry, Cindy Laney and husband Dan, and son, Kyle Anderson and wife Lani. In addition, she leaves behind her grandchildren, Danny and Kyle Laney, Ian and Dylan Anderson; and nieces and nephews, Debbie Brown, Elizabeth Flynn, and Charles Brown. Also surviving are step-grandchildren, Jacob Goforth, Amy and Jake Watson, and Ali Goforth and Willson Fisher. She also leaves behind step-great-grandchildren Culler and Abby Goforth, Jacob and Grant Watson, and Allison Fisher. The family would like to thank Mrs. Sylvia Deaton and Mr. Larry Goforth for their kind assistance to Neva in her later years.
