Nellie Smith

Nellie Cudd Smith, 88, of Spartanburg, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at her home. Born January 6, 1925, in Boiling Springs, SC, she was the widow of Toliver Robert Smith and daughter of the late Preston and Betty Turner Epton Cudd. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mrs. Smith was a member of St. James United Methodist Church for 49 years. She enjoyed her hobbies of sewing and reading. She was formerly employed by Reeves Brothers Inc. in the treasurer's office and attended Robinson's Business College. Survivors include her son, David Robert Smith (Susan Owens Smith) of Bartlett, TN; grandsons, Owen Smith (Kristen) of Arlington, TN, Kenneth Smith (Jessica) of Seale, AL; and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brothers, Otha P. Cudd, Claud E. Cudd, Howard W. Cudd, and J. Frank Cudd; and sisters, Sarah Maude West and Mary E. Powell. Visitation will be 12:00-12:45 PM Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. C. E. "Smoke" Kanipe Jr. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James United Methodist Church, 213 Lanford Road, Spartanburg, SC 29301.
