Nellene Hunter

Nellene Sams Hunter, 75, of Spartanburg, SC, died Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at her home. Born May 15, 1937, in Spartanburg, she was the daughter of the late Everett Eugene and Willie Estelle McKinney Sams. A beautiful and loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Mrs. Hunter was a member of New Life Worship Center and loved teaching Children's Sunday School classes. She also enjoyed needlework, loved gardening, and was a Den Mother with the Boy Scouts. Surviving is her devoted husband, George Hayes Hunter; daughter, Beverly Cato Gibby; granddaughters, Lauren Blackwell (Brooks), Michelle Cato, and Kristy McKennon; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Alice Tutterrow (Joe) of Boiling Springs and Katie Peeler (James) of Glendale; brothers, Elmond Sams of Cowpens and Robert Sams (Liz) of Pauline. She was predeceased by a son, George Byron Hunter; sisters, Sarah Long and Mary Jo Bennett; and her beloved Yorkshire Terrier, Molly. Visitation will be 11:00 AM - 12:15 PM Saturday, April 27, 2013, at New Life Worship Center, 3548 Clifton-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 12:30 PM, at the Worship Center, conducted by the Rev. Cathleen Cathcart. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Life Worship Center. The family is at the home.
