Nelda Barnes

Nelda K. Barnes, 84, of 3150 Longbow Drive, died Thursday, July 23, 2009, at Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care. Born October 12, 1924, in Jackson, WI, she was the daughter of the late Reinhold Otto Ferdinand and Emily Marie Wulff Kressin and the wife of the late Ralph Barnes. She was a retired teacher with the SC School for the Deaf and Blind with 30 years of service. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and very active in the deaf community. Survivors include a daughter, Violet June Parton of Gaffney; two sons, Bruce W. Barnes and his wife Dana Lee, and Ralph K. Barnes and his wife Elizabeth Byrd, all of Inman; three granddaughters, Tamara Spencer and Rolanda Spencer, both of Gaffney, and Josette E. Barnes of Inman; a step-granddaughter, Jennifer Byrd, and two step-grandsons, James Byrd and Elijah P. Rhodes, all of Inman; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by two grandsons, Boyd Spencer, III and Jason Lee Spencer. Visitation will be 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday, July 26, 2009, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 27, 2009, at St. John's Lutheran Church conducted by the Rev. Dr. Boyd F. Cook. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Complex. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church Building Fund, 415 South Pine Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
