Ned Wilson Potter, 73, of Cowpens, SC, died Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born September 25, 1938, in Spartanburg, he was the son of Bernice Martin Potter of Spartanburg, and the late Woodrow Wilson Potter. Mr. Potter attended Wofford College and retired as owner-operator of Potter's Store and Insurance Agency in Cowpens. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, and former member of the Cowpens Lions Club and Cowpens Masonic Lodge. Ned loved fishing, hunting, the outdoors, restoring furniture and antiques, and building beautiful period furniture. In addition to his mother, survivors include his beloved wife of 51 years, Shirley Edge Potter; son, Christopher Martin Potter and wife Kimberly Renee Potter of Irmo, SC; grandchildren, Dylan Lane Potter and Carlyle Ashlyn Potter; sister, Terry Potter Roof and husband Wade Clark Roof of Santa Barbara, CA; and niece, Katherine Brandts. He was predeceased by grandparents, James Andrew Potter and Mary Lee Harling Potter, and George Fred Martin and Laura Whitlock Martin; and a niece, Jennifer Guilford. A memorial service honoring his life will be conducted at 3:00 PM Sunday, July 22, 2012, at Salem United Methodist Church, by the Rev. John Howle and the Rev. Brian Inman. Visitation will follow in the church sanctuary. Entombment will be private.
