Nancy Fisher Shealey, a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully in Spartanburg, SC on Saturday, December 23, 2023. She was born on August 15, 1935, in Charlotte, North Carolina, daughter of the late John William Fisher and Leona Wilson Fisher. She married her beloved husband and love of her life Sidney W. Shealey, Jr. on December 17, 1955.
Nancy dedicated her life to raising her two sons, Joseph "Joey" Shealey and Russell Scott Shealey. She was an exceptional mother who provided a safe and nurturing home for her family. Nancy's talent as a cook brought joy to their dining table as she prepared delicious meals with love. Her caring nature extended beyond her immediate family as she welcomed friends into her home and made them feel like part of the family.
Nancy enjoyed working outdoors in her yard. She considered this her personal time, maintaining her lawn and enjoying the fresh air and sunshine. She also enjoyed seasonally decorating and maintaining the neighborhood entrance way.
Nancy had a spirit for adventure that led her across the globe. She traveled multiple times to Europe and Asia, immersing herself in different cultures and creating lasting memories along the way. Furthermore, she embarked on exciting journeys throughout the United States including the Hawaiian Islands with her beloved husband and dear friends. It was during these shared expeditions that Nancy experienced the joys of discovery while forging unforgettable bonds.
Devoted to her faith, Nancy volunteered countless hours with her church and with Meals on Wheels. Her selflessness touched the lives of many as she worked diligently to support various charitable community initiatives. Nancy's commitment to serving others epitomized compassion and kindness—a shining example for all who knew her.
Beyond her adventurous spirit and dedication as a mother and volunteer, Nancy possessed a quiet creativity. While planning trips around the world brought excitement into her life, she found equal pleasure in the simple acts of needlepoint, cross-stitch, and sewing. Along with allowing her creativity to flourish, these pursuits provided her with moments of peaceful reflection and beautiful displays for her home of places she had visited.
Nancy's passing deeply saddens all who had the privilege of knowing her, as it comes only five days after her beloved husband passed. Although their departure leaves a void in the hearts of their loved ones, their enduring love story will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to witness it.
To honor Nancy's life and bid her a fond farewell, visitation will be held on Wednesday December 27, 2023, from 12:00 PM to 12:45 PM at Fernwood Baptist Church located at 200 Fernwood Dr in Spartanburg, SC. Nancy is survived by her two loving sons, Joseph "Joey" Shealey of Raleigh, NC and Russell Scott Shealey, of Atlanta, GA. Her legacy lives on through her three beloved grandchildren, Sidney, Andrea, and Joseph Shealey whom she adored and cherished. Together with their extended family and friends, they will honor Nancy's memory and ensure that her spirit continues to shine brightly.
