Nancy Babb

Nancy Easter Babb, 73, of Spartanburg, SC, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 18, 2015. She was born November 12, 1941, in Greenville County, SC, to the late Lawrence Broadus and Helen Sudduth Babb. Nancy graduated from Blue Ridge High School. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Tift College of Forsyth, Georgia in 1965. In 1975, she received her Master of Science in Nursing from the Medical College of Georgia. Nancy's lifelong passions were her faith, family, and nursing education. She was a member of Morningside Baptist Church of Spartanburg. She served many needs which included being a co-teacher of her ACTS Sunday School Class and a deacon. She aided the community through Mobile Meals Service. Nancy began her teaching career in Spartanburg in 1969 at the Spartanburg Regional Hospital School of Nursing. She moved with the program to the newly created University of South Carolina at the Spartanburg campus. She was a founding member of USCS School of Nursing. In 1976, she became director of the Associate Degree Program in Nursing and provided leadership in that position for fifteen years. She continued as a full-time professor of nursing until her retirement in 2002 and was then named Professor Emerita of Nursing. In her more than thirty-three years of teaching, she directly taught thousands of nurses in the Spartanburg area. Nancy's love and joy for family never ceased. She lived for her nephews and later for her grand-nieces and nephews. Her family included the circle of special friends she developed throughout the years. Her friends were her treasure and sustained her to the end. Survivors include her brother, Reuben Babb (Brenda); nephews Larry (Lisa), Michael (Dina), and Stephen (Debbi); six grand-nephews and two grand-nieces, Warren, Joshua, Daniel, Jacob, Jordan, D'Aaron, Madelaine, and Alexis. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 PM Friday, January 23, 2015, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 24, 2015, at Morningside Baptist Church, 897 S. Pine St., Spartanburg, SC 29302, by the Rev. Jack Dodds and the Rev. Ronnie Williams. Burial will be in the family plot located at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, 4899 Jordan Rd., Greer, SC 29651.
