Myrtle Lee Henson Guy, a cherished member of her community and a devoted family matriarch, passed away on September 28, 2024, in Inman, South Carolina, at the age of 97. Myrtle was born on February 21, 1927, in Spartanburg, South Carolina to the late William A. Henson Sr. and Zora Donnahoo Henson. Myrtle lived a life rich in love, service, and faith.
Myrtle dedicated many years of her career to the Spartanburg Herald Journal, where she excelled in the sales department until her retirement. A lifelong member of First Baptist North Spartanburg, Myrtle's faith was a central pillar of her life. For over 50 years, she wholeheartedly served the church, teaching Sunday School classes and directing Christmas plays for the preschool department, and positively influencing countless young lives. Her belief in the power of community and family was evident in everything she did. Myrtle was known for her warm personality and her love for engaging conversations. She had a particular fondness for talking on the phone, staying connected with those she loved. Her family meant the world to her, and she took pride in caring for them.
Myrtle is survived by two nieces; Linda Gurley, and Pat Groothede; Nephews; Terry Hughes (Freda), and John Riley; three great nieces; Jennifer Bush (Chris), and Elizabeth Riley, and Angela Lee; and two great nephews; Brandon Hughes, and Andrew Riley. Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Guy; her daughter, Phyllis Guy; her father, William A. Henson Sr.; her mother, Zora Donnahoo Henson; 11 siblings and her niece, Deborah Riley.
Her legacy of love and faith will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her. The visitation will take place at First Baptist North Spartanburg located at 8740 Asheville Hwy Spartanburg, SC 29316 on Friday, October 11, 2024, starting at 11:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:30 AM. Burial will follow immediately after the service at First Baptist North Spartanburg Church Cemetery. Myrtle will be remembered fondly and missed deeply by all whose lives she touched.
