Muriel Joy Henning Foycik, 86, of Spartanburg, SC, died Sunday, February 15, 2015, at Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care. Born April 7, 1928, in Farrell, PA, she was the daughter of the late Freda Susanna Henning and widow of Michael Joseph Foycik. Joy was an engaging, creative woman who enjoyed watercolor and portrait painting, along with quilting, crocheting, and other visual arts. She worked to care for all; her time was her greatest gift. She sewed and created for those she loved. She was an avid reader who also enjoyed gardening and tending to her roses. Her favorite activity was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She moved to Tucson in 1988 to be with her older grandchildren and moved to Spartanburg in 2005 to be with her new grandson. She also shared great tales of her fascinating adventures in life. And for the young ones, she had a steady stream of fun toys, treats, and books on hand. Joy worked in the hospitality management industry for most of her life. When she was in her early 50s, Joy went back to school and earned an Associate Degree in information technology from Youngstown State University. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Prayer Shawl Group. She was formerly a library volunteer with "Friends of the Library." Survivors include her son, Michael Joseph Foycik, Jr. of Silver Spring, MD; daughters, Karen Morse of Tucson, AZ and Elaine Gosnell (Barney) of Spartanburg, SC; sister, Gerry McConnell; brothers, Claude "Bill" Davis (Janice) and Guy Davis; grandchildren, Lucas Morse (Amanda), James Morse (Amanda), Gabrielle Morse, Anderson, Henry & Teagan Gosnell, January Garrity (Jack) and Lindsay Garrity (Sean); great-granddaughters, Jenelle and Jersey Anne Garrity; and numerous nieces and nephews. Joy was also looking forward to the birth of her great-grandson, expected to be born in April. The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 PM Friday, February 20, 2015 at Eden Terrace of Spartanburg, 2780 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
