Muriel Campbell

Muriel Anna Peacock Campbell, 92, of Spartanburg, died Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at her home. Born July 11, 1919, in Stroud, Ontario, Canada, she was the widow of Gordon A. Campbell, and the oldest daughter of the late Fred and Ida McMulkin Peacock. She has now joined her husband of 46 years, her parents, brothers, and sisters. Mrs. Campbell attended Barrie Collegiate Institute and was a 1943 graduate of Wellesley Hospital Nursing School in Toronto as a Registered Nurse. She is a veteran of the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps and served with the Royal Canadian Nursing Corps during World War II. Her desire to travel led her to a position as a stewardess with Air Canada in 1946 until her marriage in 1954. She was instrumental in the formation of the Canadian Stewardess Association. Interest in floral design brought her to become accredited in the field and she then became a Master Judge Emeritus. A loving mother, Muriel shared her experiences and skills as a nurse at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center and as a volunteer at the Charles Lea Center. She was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and involved in many activities in the church. Surviving are her sons, David Campbell and wife Linda of Spartanburg, Donald Campbell and wife Beth of Carmel, IN, and William L. "Billy" Campbell of the home; grandchildren, Shawn Campbell and wife McKenzie of Charlotte, NC, Drew Campbell of Spartanburg, and Kelsey and Parker Campbell of Carmel, IN; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, William R. and Lois Campbell and Dorothy and Walter Boyd, all of Canada. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Friday, April 6, 2012, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 7, 2012, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, by the Rev. Dale Rawlings and the Rev. Dr. B. E. Pettit. Private interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 309 Fernwood Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29307; or the American Heart Association, 3535 Pelham Road, Suite 101, Greenville, SC 29615.
