Mrs. Ethel Hayes

June 13, 1919 — May 7, 2009

Mother, You gave so much and asked so little in return. We love you! Mrs. Ethel Hamby Hayes, of Arcadia, SC, departed this life on Thursday, May 7, 2009, and was escorted by angels from the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home into Heaven and gently placed in the arms of Jesus. Her earthly journey is completed, and she is safe at "Home" at last. She was 89 years of age. Born in Greenville, SC, on June 13, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Hazel Hood Hamby. She was the loving and faithful wife of Dean Mills Hayes until God called him home in 1984, and the loving and devoted mother to their three children. Mrs. Hayes was a former employee of Mayfair Mills where she worked in the spinning department. In addition, she used her "special God-given gift" to create special hand-made items for friends, loved ones, sick and shut-ins. A Charter Member of Fairview Free Will Baptist Church, she was a faithful servant to her Lord and Savior, and continued to serve Him as a Prayer Warrior when she could no longer attend church services. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, a son, C. Dean Hayes of Boiling Springs; two daughters, Mable Padgett of Jackson, GA, and Debra White of Moore; five grandchildren, Pam Robinson, Deanie Hayes, Leslie Villanueva, April Clinton, and Kris Hammett; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition, she leaves behind her "pride and joy", "Baby". In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Fred Hamby; her "baby brother", T. J. Hamby; and one sister, Evelyn Hamby Wooten. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2009, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 10, 2009, at Fairview Free Will Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Tim Hackett and the Rev. Earl Hendrix. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Flowers will be accepted, or donations may be made in her memory to Fairview Free Baptist Church, 2058 Chesnee Highway, Spartanburg, SC 29303; to Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303; or to Mobile Meals Service, P. O. Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304. The family is at the home of her son, Dean Hayes, 148 Southland Avenue, Boiling Springs.
