Mrs. Emma Griffin

August 15, 1925 — December 25, 2013

To all that knew Ms. Emma, how befitting that she was called to heaven on Christmas Day 2013, at Wesley Court Assisted Living. Born August 15, 1925, in Cowpens, SC, she was the daughter of the late Thurmond and Edisto Martin Williams, and wife of the late, Horace L. Griffin Jr. Mrs. Griffin worked in admitting at Spartanburg General Hospital from 1945 to 1959, was the owner/operator of Westlane Bowl in Spartanburg, SC and Gaffney, SC for 31 years, and was a member of Central United Methodist Church and Duncan Memorial Methodist Church. She volunteered with Mobile Meals, The Soup Kitchen at Second Presbyterian Church and at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center for many years. Ms. Emma was an avid reader and a whiz at crossword puzzles and Jeopardy. Survivors include her sons, Robert Wallace Griffin (Judy) of Inman, SC and Gerald Lee Griffin Sr. (Jayne) of Moore, SC, grandchildren, Gerald Lee Griffin Jr., Neil Lee Griffin both of Moore, SC, and Charlotte G. Mathis (Kyle) of Boiling Springs, great-grandsons, Griffin Breck Mathis and Joshua Allen Mathis both of Boiling Springs, SC, nieces and nephews, Sonja Boch, Cindy Bolt, Rhetta Dawson all of California and Charles Baxter of Spartanburg, SC. She was predeceased by brothers, Marion Williams and Rhett Williams and a sister, Emily Baxter. Visitation will be held from 10:00 - 10:45 AM on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM, at the Chapel, conducted by Rev. Alex Stevenson. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Soup Kitchen, 136 South Forest Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306, or Mobile Meals Service, P. O. Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
