Mrs. Cleo Phillips

September 26, 1915 — December 3, 2009

Mrs. Cleo Hattie Pannell Phillips, 94, of 319 East Main Street, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday afternoon, December 3, 2009, at her home with her loving family by her side. Born September 26, 1915, in Bakersville, NC, she was the daughter of the late John D. and Lida Blevins Pannell. She married the love of her life, Harry Lee Phillips, on July 17, 1942, with whom she is now reunited. She attended Lees McRae College in Banner Elk, NC. Over the course of her long and blessed life, Mrs. Phillips worked in the family business in Easley, SC, traveled the world, raised two daughters, and helped raise seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Mrs. Phillips was an active member of her community and church, teaching Sunday School at Ariel Baptist Church, participating in the Rose Garden Club and the Jolly 60's. She was an avid gardener, blessed with a green thumb, and cherished the beauty of nature, especially cardinals, who also adored her. Mrs. Phillips possessed a unique and uplifting sense of humor, enjoyed by all who were around her, and an unparalleled nature of grace, charm, dignity, and humility. Mrs. Phillips' most distinctive characteristics, however, were her dedicated faith in the Lord and the life she led as a result. Survivors include two daughters, Susan Phillips Sease and her husband Wayne of Spartanburg, and Harriett Phillips King and her husband Douglas of Easley; grandsons, Russell King and wife Tammy of Easley, Johnathan King of Alabama, David Sease and wife Stasa of Lexington, and W. Franklin Sease, Jr. and wife Kerry of Greenville; granddaughters, Meredith Jarlebrink and husband Karl of Easley, Jennifer Cluverius and husband Jake of Columbia, and Megan Sease of Savannah, GA; and ten great-grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Family and friends are welcomed to the Inn on Main, 319 East Main Street, on Sunday, December 6, 2009, between 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to celebrate the life of Mrs. Phillips. A funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel at the First Presbyterian Church conducted by the Rev. Susan E. Moorefield and Chaplain Frank Levinka. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, 2410 Gentry Memorial Highway, Pickens, SC 29671. Pallbearers will be Russell Phillips King, Brandon Phillips King, Taylor Cole King, David Austin Sease, W. Franklin Sease, Jr., James Kenneth Cluverius, Jr., Johnathan McDaniel King, and Niles Huntington Brown.
