Mr. Robert Otts

Robert "Bill" William Otts (Smiley), 90, died Friday, May 1, 2015 at Spartanburg Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born October 5, 1924, in Moore, S.C., to the late Robert James and Virginia McCarley Otts Johnson. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He started Ayers-Otts Flower Shop in 1944 with his wife, Lydia Ayers Otts and his father-in-law, James M. Ayers. Mr. Otts was an accomplished floral designer and grower. For many years, he provided the floral arrangement for the Parlor at First Presbyterian Church. Mr. Otts was also a self-employed realtor at Bill Otts Real Estate and formerly worked at Spartanburg County Jail, Lake Blalock Waste Management, and Cudd & Coan Insurance. He is survived by his daughters, Anne Otts and Joy Timmons (Wayne) of Spartanburg, SC; and a sister, Nancy O. Boyter of Spartanburg, SC; and a special daughter, Judy Hallman of Spartanburg, SC. Mr. Otts was also predeceased by wife of 57 years, Lydia Ayers Otts in 2001 and by his brother, David Otts. Family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 PM Sunday, May 3, 2015 at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel, 235 N. Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306. A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Monday, May 4, 2015, First Presbyterian Church, 393 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302, with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Evans, the Rev. Joanne Hull, and Beth Cecil, RN officiating. The family requests the men in the congregation to wear Bow Ties in memory of him. Burial will follow in Nazareth Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 680 Nazareth Church Road, Moore, SC 29369. Pallbearers will be Dr. Henry Boyter, De Calvert, Don Heatherly, Joe McCarley, Danny Hipp, and Gordon Floyd. Honorary escort will be the Purnell Sunday School class at First Presbyterian Church.
