Mr. Robert Gilliam

Robert A. Gilliam, 64, of 209 Mullins Street, died Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born February 16, 1946 in Spartanburg County, SC, he was the son of the late Boyd and Thelma Sharpe Gilliam. A graduate of Spartanburg High School, he attended Montreat-Anderson College, and was an employee with McMahan Shoes for 22 years. He loved his family, his church, golf, was a University of South Carolina and Atlanta Braves fan, a coach with The First Tee program of Spartanburg, and was a kid at heart. Survivors include his wife, Karen Pillsburg Gilliam; a daughter, Amy Elizabeth Herndon Johnston and husband Dave of Sayre, PA; two sons, Jeffrey Thomas Herndon and wife Megan of Chattanooga, TN and David Allen Gilliam of Greenville; two sisters, Jeris Goodwin of Boiling Springs and Rosemary Gimmel of High Point, NC; a brother, Jim Gilliam of Jacksonville, FL; two granddaughters, Kristen and Claire Johnston; three grandsons, Kenneth Herndon, Alexander Gilliam, and Gerik Johnston; and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 25, 2010 at Fernwood Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Dean Allen and the Rev. Dr. Lisa Wimberly Allen. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The First Tee of Spartanburg, 640 Keltner Avenue, Spartanburg, SC 29302; or to Fernwood Baptist Church, 200 Fernwood Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29306.
