Howard C. Tucker, Sr., 90, formerly of Spartanburg, died on May 26, 2013 in Orange, California. He was born December 16, 1922 in Spartanburg, to the late James Monroe and Lonnie Casey Tucker. He was first married to the late Ruth Smith Johnson Tucker and his second wife, the late Rebecca Smith Wyatt Tucker. He retired from the United Association of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 421 of Charleston, S.C., after 55 years of service. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served in both the North Atlantic and South Pacific in World War II. He demonstrated his bravery and dedication to the United States during two separate occasions when his ship was sunk by enemy combatants. He was a Mason and Past Master of the Montgomery Lodge 362 in 1994 and 2001. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Mason 33° KCCH as well as the York Rite College, Allied Masonic Degrees, Hejaz Shrine Temple of Greenville. He was a member of St. Margaret's Episcopal Church where he served on the Vestry, was chairman of the blood bank, a licensed chalice bearer, and served as an usher and greeter. Mr. Tucker is survived by a daughter, Sandra Tucker DeAngelis, of Santa Ana, California; sons, Howard C. Tucker II, of League City, Texas and Joe Perry Johnson, of Myrtle Beach; step-daughters, Vickie Brown, of Spartanburg and Joyce Anderson, of Edgewater, Maryland; four grandsons, Joe P. Johnson, III, Mark Johnson, Richard Tucker and Timothy Tucker; as well as eight great-grandchildren and a sister, Lilly Tucker Adams of Spartanburg. He was predeceased by a brother, George Marion Tucker; sisters, Ila Davis and Mattie Razawich, a stepson, Robert C. Wyatt Jr. and a grandson, Howard C. Tucker III. Visitation will be at 1:00 to 1:45 PM on Friday, May 31, 2013, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307, with services following at 2:00 PM in the chapel conducted by The Rev. Roy Cole. Burial with military rites by the SC State Guard Honors Team and Masonic Rites will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. A reception will be held following the burial at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church. Masons will serve as pallbearers and honorary escort.
