Mr. "Ed" Miller

Edward Warden Miller, 61, of Spartanburg, passed into eternal rest on Wednesday, May 25, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. Mr. Ed was born in Clarksville, Indiana to Winifred Willis and E. W. Miller. He grew up in Brandenburg, Kentucky and moved to Cassatt, SC with his mother and stepfather J. Claude Boudreau along with his sisters Lynn and Renee. He attended Texas El Paso College, Brewton Parker College and was a graduate of The University of South Carolina in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management. As a member of the USC Swim Team, Ed pursued his Masters in Business while working as a Graduate Assistant as the USC Swim Team Assistant Coach and National Recruiter. In 1975, he married Colleen Paquette Miller of Charleston, SC. In 1976 they made their home in Spartanburg, SC where Ed worked at Milliken Corporation, Risdon Corporation, and R.A. Earnhardt Electrical Division. In 1985, he became President of MPT. In 2002, Mr. Ed renewed his passion for coaching swimming as the Senior Coach with Spartan Splash School. Mr. Ed was an Assistant Coach for three years for the SC Zone Team, Board Member, and Safety Coordinator for the SC Local Swim Committee, Lifetime member of the American Swim Coaches Association, and a Level IV swim coach with USA Swimming, Inc. Ed was also a basketball referee for many years across the State of SC. Ed was a dedicated husband for 36 years to Colleen P. Miller; a devoted father to his sons, Kyle E. W. Miller of Charleston, SC, Casey A. Miller of Spartanburg, SC, and Kevin T. Miller of Spartanburg, SC. He was predeceased by his father, Estil W. Miller (wife Lee), of Norman, OK; and his brother-in-law, Robert James Paquette of Charleston, SC. In addition to his wife and sons, he is survived by his parents, Winnie and Claude Boudreau of Cassatt, SC; his sister, Lynn Rispone and husband Andy; niece and nephew, Jennifer Rispone and Christopher Reed (Kim, Connor, and Emily) of Baton Rouge, LA; his sister, Renee Sanders and husband Belton O'Neil and nieces Kathryn Ann and Sarah Carlisle of Allendale, SC; his special Uncle Paul A. Willis and wife Barbara of DeBordieu, SC; his cousins Mark Willis of Lexington, KY and Sally Martin of Charleston, SC; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Joseph T. Newton, Jr. of Charleston, SC; brother-in-law, Michael A. Paquette (wife Jennifer) of Pensacola, FL; nieces, Heather Priester (Ricky, Kate, and Charlie) and Lauren Gunter (Paul, Finn, and Sawyer), all of Charleston, SC; sister-in-law, Pam Paquette, nephew Pat Paquette, nieces Lee and Ali Paquette, and great-niece Aubrey Luden, all of Charleston, SC; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews across the USA. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Friday, May 27, 2011 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12:00 noon on Saturday, May 28, 2011, at The Catholic Church of Jesus Our Risen Savior, conducted by the Rev. Timothy M. Gahan. Private interment will be held at a later date at Holy Cross Cemetery, Charleston, SC. Pallbearers are David Briggs, Brian Schachner, Bobby Grimes, Tony Brandon, Bob Babrowicz, Jeff Kurkis, Bill McAndrew, Tim Connolly. Honorary pallbearers are Spartan Splash School Competition Team and USC Swim Team Alumni. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spartan Splash Coaching & Scholarship Fund, c/o Arthur State Bank, 756 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302. The family is at the home.
