Monte Moore, 75, of Spartanburg, SC passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2022, at home, surrounded by his wife and daughters. He was born in Spartanburg to the late Patrick J. and Helen Gunter Moore.
A Letterman in both baseball and football at Spartanburg High School, Monte played in the Shrine Bowl his Senior year and went on to play football for the University of South Carolina.
He was involved in his community in many ways, through his service as a Mason and a Shriner, as a former board member for the Girl Scouts of America, a volunteer with the Salvation Army Red Shield Community Center, a little league coach with the Luncheon Optimist Club and a member of St. James UMC.
He retired from a career in sales and information technology. Being an avid golfer, he worked after retirement at Three Pines Country Club and The Creek Golf Club where he was able to spend time with many good friends. Monte will be greatly missed by his best friends, Johnny Gooch and Don Hutchinson.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Monica “Monty” Moore of the home; daughters Rae’ Moore Smith (Michael) of Pendleton, SC, Ashley Moore Jackson of Greer SC, and Laurin Moore Keen of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Jessica Holmes Stepp (Daniel), Cameron Holmes (Megan), Chandler Keen, Addie Jackson, and Kylie Smith; great-grandchildren, Caroline and Greyson Holmes; brother, George A. Moore (Joyce) of Fredericksburg, TX; and sister, Connie Easler of Spartanburg, SC.
A Celebration of Life will be held between 2:00 and 4:00 pm on Sunday, January 8, 2023 at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
