Modeen Swofford

Modeen J. Swofford, formerly of Cowpens, went home to be with her Lord, Sunday, August 14, 2022, following a brief illness at Greenville Memorial Hospital. She was 94 years old.

Born August 13, 1928, Mrs. Swofford grew up in Chesnee before graduating from Cowpens High School in 1946. After marrying the love of her life, William Gilbert Swofford, in 1946, she worked at Kress Department Store. Later, she owned and operated her own hair salon out of her home to ensure she could spend cherished time with her children. After long hours daily, she prided herself on preparing a full hot meal and dessert for her family.

Her adult Christian life was spent at First Baptist Church - Cowpens, where she proudly served as Director of the Nursery for 45 years.

Mrs. Swofford is survived by, her son, Donald Nelson Swofford (Connie) of Greenville, daughter, Ann Swofford Leverette (Michael) of Greenville; Grandchildren, Aubrey Jenson Swofford (Theresa), William David Swofford (Meghann), Lauren Leverette Keating (Adam), and Michael Swofford Leverette; Great-Grandchilren, Benjamin Brady Swofford, William David Swofford, junior, Claire Harmon Swofford, Henry Reed Swofford, John Swofford Keating and Charlotte Grace Keating.

She is predeceased by her devoted husband, Gib, and her beloved grandmother, Pearl Workman Revels.

Mrs. Swofford will be best remembered for always putting others first. She loved her family, her extended family, her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She also loved animals, which she had many. She was a very strong, independent lady, being a widow at age 49. She was very humble and had a generous heart. She truly cared for others and often did things without recognition.

A special thank you to the nieces and nephews and their spouses that kept in touch through the years with visits, calls and cards.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
