The measure of a man is not how he died, but how he lived. A proud product of the Beaumont community, Mitchell (Mitch) Dalton Allen, Jr. went to be with his Savior on October 1, 2016. Born on October 11, 1939, he was the only son of Mitchell Dalton Allen, Sr. and Eva Foster Allen. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carolyn Cromer Allen; son, Mitchell David Allen of Spartanburg; son, Matthew Edwin Allen and favorite daughter-in-law, Ginger M. Allen of Sunset, SC. A 1961 graduate of Clemson College, he served in the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps and was a 1981 graduate of the Harvard Business Schools Advanced Management Program. He spent his entire professional career working for Spartan Mills, retiring as Executive Vice President in 2000. A former member of Green Street Baptist Church, he was an active member, Sunday School teacher and deacon of First North. For the last 16 years, he had been a dedicated volunteer with Mobile Meals of Spartanburg. Mitch asked Jesus to live in his heart when he was nine, and faithfully lived a lifestyle of obedience and integrity for the rest of his life. After a brief struggle with melanoma, Mitch ended his temporary earthly existence and successfully began his time in eternity. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to Camp McCall (through the Baptist Foundation of South Carolina, 190 Stoneridge Drive, Columbia, SC 29210 (800-723-7242) or Mobile Meals of Spartanburg, 419 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302 (864-573-7684). Mitch rarely said "Goodbye" but would often say "Here or There, Sooner or Later." We look forward to seeing him "There" sooner or later. Memorial service will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at First Baptist North Spartanburg, 8740 Asheville Hwy, Spartanburg, SC 29316, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Michael S. Hamlet.
