Minnie Phillips Whitt, 98, of Spartanburg, SC passed away Thursday, February 6, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born June 18, 1926, Minnie is the daughter of the late Stonewall Jackson Phillips and Bernice Ellison Phillips. She graduated from Spartanburg General Hospital School of Nursing and went on to work as a registered nurse for 51 years for Dr. G B Hodge. She was a member of the Spartanburg General Hospital Alumni Association. Also, an avid member of Ben Avon United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday school for the age groups of four- and five-year-olds for 30 years. She was an avid participant in senior groups at Camp Croft Baptist Church and took many trips with them. Minnie loved to travel and visited all 50 states.
Minnie is survived by her son, James C. Whitt (Kim); daughter, Julia Merrell (Eddie); sister-in-law, Margie Tate; daughter-in-law, Pam Whitt; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents, Minnie is preceded in death by her first husband, James Claude Whitt; her second husband, Kenneth Bishop; son, John R. Whitt; brothers, John and Jack Phillips.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm, Friday, February 14, 2025, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main St, Spartanburg, SC 29307. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel. Burial will follow the service at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ben Avon United Methodist Church for special projects at 2360 Avondale Dr, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
