Mildred Stirzaker

Mildred "Millie" Parsons Stirzaker, 91, of Longwood, FL passed away on Sunday, March 7th, 2021. Mildred was born on May 7, 1929 in Somerville, TN to the late Duncan Dewitt and Grace Holmes Parsons. Millie received her baccalaureate degree in Music Education from Murray State University, Murray, Kentucky, and her master's degree in Music from Indiana State University in Terra Haute, IN. Upon moving to Spartanburg in 1967, Millie taught music at Westminster Presbyterian Kindergarten and later taught Chorus at Evans Junior High School, McCracken Junior High School, and Broome High School until retirement. She was a member and past president of the Spartanburg Philharmonic Music Club, and member and past president of the Garden Study Club of Spartanburg. She was a past member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and the South Carolina Music Educators Association (SCMEA). She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Spartanburg and a long-term volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Millie was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Norbert A. Stirzaker, founding dean of the University of South Carolina Upstate; and her sister, Nancy Parsons Ferguson. She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Kim Stirzaker and her husband, Robert McCormick of Tampa, FL; son, Dr. Thomas Stirzaker and wife, Rebecca (Becky) of Harlingen, TX; daughter, Ellen Stirzaker Cohen of Spartanburg, SC; daughter, Amy Stirzaker Sanchez and husband, Donald Sanchez Jr. of Longwood, FL; grandchildren, Colin McCormick, Jacqueline Munguia, Javier and Maria Sanchez, and great-grandchild, Johnathan Munguia. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM March 26, 2021 at St. Paul the Apostle Historic Church, 161 N. Dean Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302. The family requests that attendees please wear a mask and observe social distancing. In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates memorials be made to the Norbert A.
