Mildred Miller

Mildred Reeder Miller, 96, formerly of the Westview community of Spartanburg, died Friday, March 18, 2011, at White Oak Manor. Born March 25, 1914, in Campobello, SC, she was a daughter of the late Landon Edgar and Margaret Cornelia "Daisy" Hemminger Reeder and the widow of Carl C. Miller. Mildred attended several Spartanburg County schools where her father taught - Mayo, Gramling, Chesnee, and Fairforest. She was valedictorian of both her high school class and Junior College at Textile Industrial Institute (now Spartanburg Methodist College) and completed one year at Asheville Teacher's College. She was a former employee at Fairforest Finishing Co. and home health caregiver, a homemaker, an avid gardener, and a quilter. She was a long-time member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, Michael A. Miller (Ann) of Seneca, SC, and David S. Miller (Mary Lou) of Franklin, NC; daughter-in-law, Joan C. Miller of Clemson, SC; sister, Jane R. Lanford of Spartanburg; special niece, Helen Cartee of Spartanburg; eight grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by a daughter, Kathryn R. Stroble; two sons, Landon C. Miller and William E. Miller; sisters, Ruth G. Hendrix, Peggy R. Suber, and Esther R. Pearson; and brothers, Edgar, Bill, and Harold Reeder. Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Rufus Chaneyworth and the Rev. Jason Lee. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 PM prior to the service at the graveside. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church, 350 N.
